A Long Time Coming
A few years ago we began making some much needed improvements to the barn. Zoe’s art studio was in the East room, and she was understandably growing tired of it being as windy inside as it was outside (and almost as rainy too). That year we dedicated our summer evenings after work to hanging new siding.
With the most urgent problem solved, we continued over the next year on the studio interior. We insulated the walls, installed a heat pump, and hung drywall. Her studio was finally was a heatable space and she was able to move in just in time for the 2024 Orcas Artist Studio Tour.
This year we continued in the same vein, transforming the unfinished West room into the Gallery. The vision for this room will undoubtedly shift as we find the best fit for the community. Currently we imagine it being the (perhaps atypical) combination of pinball arcade, art gallery, and teaching/community space.
